What is the single most significant event in World history that served as the genesis for European domination?

Is there such an event? i.e. Discovery of the new world or of new weaponry? Or is it because China with its massive naval fleet chose not to pursue conquest when one of its emperors died? I just want to have a better perspective on how our Euro-dominated world came about.

Thanks! What is the single most significant event in World history that served as the genesis for European domination?
The Renaissance.

It put science into the forefront of society instead of religion and religious law.

It also moved to put individual effort above social standing.

Individuals could grow and develop and become successful.

A radical idea in a world where most places have a cast system that forbids individual achievement.
Discovery of the 'New World' of the Americas by Columbus in 1492 and the subsequent exploitation of it by European powers. What is the single most significant event in World history that served as the genesis for European domination?
Probably Osburh having her sons learn a piece of poetry to win her Psalter as a prize. The winner was her youngest son Aelfred, he became a bibliophile, and when he ended up as King imported many Monks to teach the people of Wessex to read and write.

It is the reason England became so literate, (Bede and his learning had nearly been lost) which in turn led to England having the Administration it did.

Which led to Magna Charta.

Which ensured no person including the King was above the Law, and the Law was available to all even the poor.

Which meant in the mid 1770s James Watt was able to Patent his novel idea of a seperate condensing boiler that made the steam Engine a vialble product for generating power.

which also meant when Michael Faraday invented the Dynamo and Alternator, that we are able today to use the Internet.
Europeans have dominated the world since 1492 because they use all available means to do so, including genocide, deception, slavery, sanctioned religious greed. They just became evil and adopted evil ways. What is the single most significant event in World history that served as the genesis for European domination?
i think it's all becaue queen elizabeth devoted her life to her country. i wish we had leaders with that kind of devotion these days minus the monarchy type attitude. i feel like our political reps right now dont have their heart in what they do.
roman empire
There are more than one event, or circumstances that have provided the West with dominance.

1. The Crusades.
With the first victory in the 1st crusade, the Military orders arose. These included the Templars, the Hospitallars and the Teutonic Orders. The Templars invented the first international banking system using the equivalent of cheques. These orders made absolute fortunes with trade and banking (originally to finance the crusades) and when they were disbanded and persecuted by the Vatican, their wealth went to the church.

2. Industrial Revolution.
The reason that Britain became such a massive empire in my own, Victorian era, was simply a question of logistics. China was as advanced as the rest of the world - even more so with some of their inventions - but the only way to get coal from the heart of the country to Beijing and other large cities, was via the Yangtze River or across miles of country. This was nearly impossible and it was not a high priority for the Chinese, while in Britain, we used our canals, waterways - and subsequently roads and railways (the steam engine was massive) to provide easy transport for fossil fuels. It gave us a great advantage to be a small country compared to the huge expanse of China.

3. Glass and medicine.
Ever wonder why the Far East has had paper houses and wooden temples up until relatively recently? It's because while they were using bone china, we in the West were developing glass. Glass is extremely important and completely alien to the Far East in medieval times. Later uses were for eye glasses, windows, jars to contain liquids for long periods, and most importantly, test tubes, microscopes and telescopes. It gave us a huge advantage when advancing medicines, while Eastern doctors continued with old remedies that were not as effective. They just didn't give glass the same thought as we did.

4. Exploration, expansion and naval ability.
European countries as a whole (especially Tudor times onwards) were all about trade, exploration and defense. Britain, Spain, France, Portugal, Holland etc. were in a constant naval arms race which saw much war and acquiring of foreign land. Middle and Far Eastern powers were more about consolidation of their own defenses and lands. Britain, being an island, was a seafaring country. China had far too big an empire with their one country to be concerned with expansion and exploration. (Although there were a few efforts). Middle Eastern countries were far too factitious to be dealing with naval abilities. (Also, glass containers made long voyages more possible).

Also look at trade, alliances, scientific advances, Ancient Roman invention, Ancient Greek democratic politics....
Since discovering the new world is already taken, an event not mentioned here but one that greatly set the course of Europe was the Greek victory over the Persian Empire. Had Persia defeated Greece the course of European history might have been greatly changed. Alexander ushering the Hellenistic age set a course for most of modern European culture and civilization. Rome was modeled under these idea along with most Republics.
