What is the name of the event where dogs leap off the end of a dock to get a floatie to score longest leap?

I have a five month old hound/bordercollie mix who is an excellent retriever with an exceptional ability to leap and is progressing as he continues to grow into his VERY long legs. I live near a river and he loves the water. However, we have no dock or pier for him to practice leaping from. Anyone out there involved in this sport who can tell me what the event is called and the best weay to train my youngster for this event? What is the name of the event where dogs leap off the end of a dock to get a floatie to score longest leap?

Its called dock diving. Unfortunatlly that all the help I can give you, my leggy whippets would dream of jumping in water. What is the name of the event where dogs leap off the end of a dock to get a floatie to score longest leap?
I really don't know what the name of the event is, but you really don't need a dock or pier. Just start with small throws, and gradually progress until he goes a long distance to retrieve. Just remember to keep it fun, and reward all retrieves. Make sure to check first for any fast currents, or whirlpools, as they can be deadly
